How To Make Candied Bacon Jalapeno Poppers

The first thing you want to do in making your jalapeno poppers is to make your candied bacon. This is a very easy step in the process and can be done beforehand to save actual cooking time.

Throw your bacon in a mixing bowl and add the brown sugar and fresh ground pepper. Mix gently to coat the bacon with the brown sugar. Sprinkle any remaining brown sugar over the bacon.

Then bake your bacon at 325ºF for 50-60 minutes. Once cooked, allow it to cool. Set aside two slices of bacon if you want to use a few pieces for garnish. Dice into small pieces and set aside.

note

Prepare your baking pan by covering it in aluminum foil. Use cooling racks to allow the fat from the bacon to drip through and keep it nice and crisp. Makes for easy cleanup.

While your bacon is cooking, you can now prepare your mix for your jalapeno poppers. Add the diced jalapenos, cheddar cheese, and cream cheese to a bowl.

You can also set aside some of the diced fresh jalapenos for garnish. When ready, add your diced bacon and combine.

You can prepare this jalapeno popper filling and refrigerate it until you’re ready to use it if you like.

note

Remove the seeds and membrane if you want this appetizer to be mild. If you like them spicier, seed the jalapeno and leave a little membrane.

This membrane is where most of the capsaicin is in the jalapeno, so it is the hottest part of the pepper. Adjust accordingly to your taste.

Prepare a mini muffin pan by coating with non-stick spray and place a wonton wrapper in each hole. Add 1 tablespoon of the jalapeno popper filling into each wonton cup. If you have any extra, distribute them evenly.

Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 8-10 minutes. Remove from oven and top with a few diced jalapeno and candied bacon, if you desire.

These jalapeno poppers, I promise, raise the bar. As earlier stated, you get so much flavor and texture in each bite. I highly recommend trying this one out, you will not be disappointed AT ALL!

I have to be honest, I made this last batch a little spicier than Leigh cared for. It was an accident, but it meant that they were all mine, and over the course of a handful of hours, they were all joyfully eaten by me.

They are easy to make, and it’s a great recipe.  It’s the perfect solution to any party food issue. Add it to your arsenal, you’ll love it.
