Walnut Fig Bread
This walnut fig bread is loaded with such delicious flavor. It’s a simple quick bread that’s so easy to make you will want to whip it up regularly.
It’s sweet, nutty, and absolutely amazing toasted and slathered with butter. Great for breakfast or an afternoon coffee break!

Place the chopped dried figs, room temperature butter, and baking soda in a large bowl. Pour the boiling water over and stir, let stand for about 15 minutes.

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Grease a 9×5 loaf pan or line with parchment paper.
Whisk the sugar, eggs, and vanilla into the fig mixture. Stir in the walnuts. Set aside.
In another bowl whisk the all-purpose flour, baking powder, and salt to combine. Whisk the flour mixture into the fig and walnut mixture just until combined.

Pour the bread batter into the prepared loaf pan and bake for 45-50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean and it’s golden brown.
Baking times may vary, not all ovens are the same.
Place the loaf pan on a wire rack and let cool for about 15 minutes. Then turn the bread out onto the rack and allow it to cool completely.
Slice and serve! It’s great just the way it is or as mentioned above toast a piece, slather it with butter, and pour yourself a cup of coffee!
Wrap in plastic wrap to store.

Can you use frozen figs in this recipe?

Can I make this using home canned fig jam?
Hi, Cindie. I don’t think fig jam will work in this recipe. It would add too much moisture.
